The Abundance Of Autodesk CAD
Just about any drafter who has spent any significant amount of time drafting has heard of Autodesk CAD. They are the driving company behind all things CAD and drafting. With almost all of their products and acquisitions being major commodities they have a large portfolio of great tools. Often times Autodesk CAD products are industry standards or of professional grade and because of that they are incredibly expensive. This raise in price however reflects exactly how great of a product they are and it has no stopped them from selling more copies of their software than anyone else.
Autodesk CAD products include things such as AutoCAD and 3DS max. The AutoCAD line in particular is quite impressive because it has not only become the de facto standard for the drafting and designing industry but its native file format has become the format to support in all other CAD products. AutoCAD unlike many other CAD products is not one piece of software. Autodesk CAD software comes as a suite and has a handful of different solutions such as AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD Civil 3D. The fact that the AutoCAD line up is made of quite a few separate applications has allowed for Autodesk CAD software to be the most complete and powerful set of tools in the industry today. With a high level of specialty and a large selection of over forty products Autodesk CAD software has become immensely popular and it’s not hard to see why.
Autodesk CAD software has also taken over the animation and rendering industry with their own product 3DS Max which was evenly matched up against its competitor Maya. Both split the market down the middle and were commonly used in all aspects of the industry. Autodesk eventually bought out Maya and today they are both part of the Autodesk CAD software library. They now have control over both of the industry standards and thusly have a complete choke hold over the animation industry. This is worded a little harsh however because aside from the price the two pieces of software are incredibly solid and Autodesk has been doing a great job of growing them and supporting the communities who use them. While the Autodesk CAD software library hasn’t always been the standard, it has usually entailed one of the most competitive pieces of software and often times Autodesk will buy out the competitors and add them to their library and continue development rather than abolishing their new acquisitions.
Whether it’s animation or drafting Autodesk CAD software has practically engulfed the market. Autodesk is the Microsoft of the drafting world except for much more responsive. While many of their products come with a high price they do offer cheaper or sometimes even free products which they develop far less than their professional counterparts. Autodesk has done a great job of growing the drafting industry and community. Actively participating in the community means at one point or another you’re likely to use some sort of Autodesk CAD software, it’s just that popular.
